We have developed a new measure of retail investors’ financial literacy by utilizing textual analysis of social media data. The text-based financial literacy measurement effectively differentiates between investors with high and low financial literacy. Furthermore, we show evidence that stocks invested in by highly financially literate investors yield statistically and economically significant high future returns. We find that highly financially literate investors engage in arbitrage trades related to stock anomalies. They exhibit greater information advantages and valuation skills compared to those with low financial literacy, enabling them to correct the mispricing of stock anomalies based on fundamental information. Our findings shed light on the relationship between investor trading behavior and financial literacy at the firm level.

我们通过利用社交媒体数据的文本分析，开发了一种衡量零售投资者金融素养的新方法。基于文本的金融素养测量有效区分了高金融素养和低金融素养的投资者。进一步的研究显示，由高金融素养投资者投资的股票在未来收益中表现出统计上和经济上显著的高回报。我们发现，高金融素养的投资者在与股票异常相关的套利交易中表现活跃。他们相比低金融素养的投资者，展示了更大的信息优势和估值技巧，从而能够根据基本信息修正股票异常定价。我们的研究结果揭示了投资者交易行为和公司层面金融素养之间的关系。

冯绪，天津大学教授，入选国家级青年人才计划。研究方向为金融文本分析，人工智能与金融。在《管理科学学报》《管理世界》、Journal of Management Information Systems、Journal of Money, Credit and Banking等国内外期刊发表论文50余篇。担任《管理科学学报(英文版)》协调编辑、Finance Research Letters副主编。担任中国系统工程学会青年工作委员会副主任委员、中国系统工程学会金融系统工程委员会副秘书长等职务。
